Enterprise software, which is sometimes also called enterprise application software, refers to computer software used to satisfy the needs of an organization. The needs of the organization are used to differentiate the needs as compared to an end-user. Some entities that make use of enterprise software are businesses, schools, interest-based user groups, clubs, charities, and even governments.

The reason for the use of enterprise software is that they manage the logistical challenge of coordinating a business. With most enterprise software platforms, each platform is custom tailored to fit the needs of that company’s structure. This results in a very specific approach that is generally very expensive.

Software as a service resides on the other end of the software platform. Otherwise known as SaaS, these types of software solutions are extremely hands off. Frequently they are created and then purchased out of the box. This means when you decide to try one, you are basically on your own to figure out how the product works. This can be extremely frustrating when the software is new.

The upside to a SaaS is that it can be very inexpensive. Frequently these types of software have a free trail and then a contract following. Usually these are priced in two different ways. The first pricing model is a multi-tiered system with unlockable features as you move up in each tier. This nudges you towards paying more for the better services. The second model of pricing is per agent or user. This can be a very tricky style of pricing as it appears to be inexpensive when you first begin to use it. However, as your business continues to grow, that X amount per user per month continues to go up as you are more successful. This basically means your company will accumulate bigger expenses as you continue to grow.

When we set out to price Janus, we wanted to find the happy medium between these two business models. The customization that we put into your personal Janus server is on par with a huge enterprise software, but at the fraction of the cost. On the other end of the spectrum, we never wanted to ding a company for their continued growth and success. For that reason, we only charge a flat monthly fee regardless of how many users you have.
