The solar industry has been one of explosive growth developments. This is inherently interesting in that at its heart, the solar industry is an advance construction business, and construction is not particularly known for rapid innovation and developments. Some may think that it is because of the need for clean energy and a sustainable future. At Janus, we think that is a factor, but it is not the whole story.

We believe that the explosive growth and innovation in the solar field arises from the fact that solar is treated as a technology. Technology is phenomenal for growth and innovation in that each iteration improves upon the previous one at an incredible rate.

You need only look to Moore’s Law to see the nature of technological growth and advancement. The observation which became Moore’s law was made in 1965 by Gordon Moore, co-founder of Intel. He observed that the number of transistors per square inch on integrated circuits had doubled every year since the integrated circuit was invented. He then predicted that this trend would continue for the foreseeable future. In the following years, the pace slowed down a little, but data density has doubled approximately every 18 months. This is the current definition of Moore’s Law, which Moore himself has blessed.

Solar panels and solar technology are treated as a piece of technology that can be expected to advance at a similar rate. Rather than treating the panels as a piece of grid iron for instance, they are rightly treated as complex compilations of circuitry and materials. This ideology and treatment has lent itself to bringing in great minds and scientists to further develop said technology. We believe this is what has caused a bulk of the massive growth in the solar industry.

At Janus, we worked with many solar companies to figure out how to improve their workflow. Surprisingly, even though they were dealing with a complex advanced technology, the workplace logistics surrounding it were antiquated. This is where we came in, bringing the project management of solar up to the technology level of the panels, while at the same time being easy to use. We were founded in the solar industry and it is in solar that we continue to thrive!
